I remember when a copper two-pence coin actually held some sway in the real world, mostly as currency for a paper bag of questionable penny sweets. This particular coin is from 1988—a glorious year of massive shoulder pads, synthesiser music, and some seriously robust Irish coinage.
Instead of letting this little piece of social history languish in a dusty drawer, I’ve given it a massive promotion. The warm, weathered copper of the coin—featuring the iconic ornamental bird on one side and the harp on the other—is now the centrepiece of this new addition to my Lucky Punt Collection.
To give it a proper lift, I’ve framed the coin with a vibrant row of repurposed turquoise nuggets and tiny, metallic hematite beads. The whole lot is suspended from a very modern, gold-plated paperclip chain that closes with a sleek, front-facing toggle clasp. It is casual, deeply nostalgic, and the perfect way to carry a bit of Irish luck around your neck without looking like you’ve been out with a metal detector in a Wicklow field.
